Tips from Rupp Arena’s award-winning social media team
When: Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 11:30 a.m.

Who: All government communicators. No registration required.
What: Join KAGC to hear tips from Rupp Arena’s award-winning social media team on building up an active and engaged online audience. Thousands of people are connected within Rupp’s dynamic social media base. We’ll hear from two people at the center of the online activity: Marketing Director Sheila Kenny and Paul Hooper, a graphic designer and social media expert. Their work has been recognized by Venues Magazine and pointed to as an example of excellence in social media. You’ll come away from this meeting with new ideas about how your agency can boost online communications and maintain strong two-way lines of communication with your audience.

Getting up to speed with web video
At the Sept. monthly meeting, Michael Goins, director of communications for the House Republican Caucus, discussed how his office successfully got web video efforts off the ground and built them into a thriving operation that connects news stories to a statewide audience. Goins discussed the equipment needed (quite often, it’s nothing more than a Flip camera) and the steps to take to share quality videos with the online world. He also pointed out some benefits of having another avenue besides the traditional media to get your messages out.
Information overload with Ron Crouch
Ron Crouch for enlightened August meeting participants about population trends in Kentucky and the United States. He gave lots of great information and how our agencies will be impacted. Crouch is director of research and statistics for the state's Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.
Allen Blair doles out social media tips
In response to a topic KAGC members expressed an interest in learning more about, the July meeting focused on innovative ways social media can help connect messages to wide audiences. KAGC member and Transportation Cabinet Information Officer Allen Blair has earned positive reviews for a presentation he created on this topic and he brought it to KAGC.
KAGC Awards of Excellence winners share award-winning projects
At the June meeting, some of the top award winners showed their work and talked about what made their projects successful. Meeting attendees saw presentations that highlighted photos, publications, audio spots and videos that earned awards in the 2013 KAGC Awards of Excellence competition.

Kentucky Communicators: Making History Every Day
The 2013 KAGC Spring Conference was held on May 23 at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky. Sessions included Centre of Attention: Behind the Scenes of the 2012 Vice Presidential Debate; Social Media and the Web: Changing the Way We Communicate; Free Digital Resources for PIOs; and Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and the Power of Words.
After the conference, the 2013 KAGC Awards of Excellence were presented.

Joel Pett signs art for April meeting guests
Lexington Herald-Leader editorial cartoonist Joel Pett shared his art and his views on politics, government and social issues at KAGC's April meeting. Pett drew faces of political figures including President Obama, Former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush and Sen. Mitch McConnell and later signed the artwork for several guests. member Sallie Showwalter won a copy of Pett's book "Just Don't Inhale!"
NewWest Owner Carl Brazley Tells Communicators to 'Remix' Message
KAGC's March meeting featured guest speaker Carl Brazley, owner of NewWest Marketing and a former NFL player. Brazley discussed how we can take to improve delivery of communications. He said good commiunication starts with understanding when we "remix" what we think we already know. Brazley said should anticipate change and learn to be a part of it. We should embrace technology. Brazley said real communication is an experience we can provide for our audience.
Transy professor encourages communicators: "Live and Let Laugh"
February's KAGC meeting saw a roomful of smiles. Dr. Mike Nichols, a visiting professor of psychology and assistant to the Dean of the College at Transylvania University, discussed ways that humor in the office and in communications can make you more productive, creative and happy.
